Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani wore this uniform (jersey and pants) during a two-game series with the Colorado Rockies on August 27th and 28th, 2018 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. This is the first known full uniform ever offered up of the Japanese phenom. Ohtani, a sensation as both a hitter and a pitcher, started the game on the 27th as the designated hitter for the Angels. In the fourth inning of this game, Ohtani smoked an 0-1 fastball from Rockies starter Jon Gray over the left-center fence for a three-run homer, his 15th of the season. Ohtani finished this game, a 10-7 Angels win, 2-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. On the 28th, Ohtani wore the pants offered in this lot during the Angels 3-2 loss to the Rockies. The Japanese star appeared in this game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.

Ohtani entered the 2018 season with massive expectations and the frequent appellation of “The Japanese Babe Ruth”. He more than lived up to the hype, hitting 22 homers with 61 RBI, a .285 average, and 10 stolen bases in only 326 at-bats and earning American League Rookie of the Year honors. On the mound, Ohtani flashed nasty stuff before an elbow injury forced the former Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters ace to focus solely on batting. In 10 starts, Ohtani compiled a 4-2 record with a 3.31 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 51.2 innings.

This offered jersey, worn during the August 27th game only, is a white pullover home jersey that turns back the clock to the Angels uniform style in the 1980’s. “Angels” and Ohtani’s number “17” are sewn on the chest of the jersey in red and navy tackle twill, with a yellow and navy tackle twill halo around the “A” in “Angels”. A California patch is sewn on the left sleeve above a red Majestic logo patch. “OHTANI” and a second “17” are sewn on the back of the jersey in red and navy tackle twill. A Majestic tag with an attached size “48” flag is sewn on the front left tail. This jersey comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JD 163326).

Ohtani’s pants, worn during the games on the 27th and 28th, are also included in this lot. These sansabelt baseball pants have a navy-red-navy stripe around the waistband and down each leg. A Majestic tag printed with “#17 OHTANI 2018 34-41-36 OBC” is sewn on the back inside waistband. These pants come with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JD 163374).
