When Steph Curry took to the court at the State Farm Arena on April 4th, 2021, the Golden State Warriors guard wore a pair of bright yellow and black custom sneakers that were hard to miss. These custom sneakers have been photo matched to the April 4th game by Sports Investors Authentication.

This was not about fashion — but it was a statement.

He wore Under Armour Curry 8 custom sneakers depicting Bruce Lee, the martial arts icon and equal rights advocate. This moment came in the wake of Asian-American violence and here is one way Curry chose to stand up and speak out for the victims.

Presented here are those very sneakers and proceeds from the auction will go to the families of the victims of the tragic racially motivated shooting of Atlanta-area spas on March 16th, 2021. The auction is being held in conjunction with the Bruce Lee Foundation, which honors the importance of unity and harmony.

The size-13 sneakers, which were painted by Kreative Custom Kicks, picture Bruce Lee with his family on the right shoe with Bruce Lee, the icon, on the left. It’s adorned on the inner panel with a quote from Lee, “Under the heavens, there is only family.” The colorway of the shoes are reminiscent of Bruce Lee’s famous Onitsuka Tiger shoes, with a thrilling black and yellow design to go along with the original art. Hallmarks of Curry footwear are also present on these fantastic kicks, with “I Can Do All Things..” and “Romans 8:28” handwritten in black marker on the left shoe’s midsole, and “WSC” inscribed on the midsole of the right shoe.

The spate of Asian-American violence has brought a large amount of media attention along with advocacy from athletes and celebrities.

“Disgust, horror and outright anger at why any violence keeps happening in our country,” Curry told The Undefeated. “After all we have been through this past year, let alone in the history of our country, people still deal with unnecessary tragedy and are afraid for their lives. We have to do better.”

In the contest against Atlanta, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player scored an incredible 37 points, with five boards, two assists, and two steals, as Atlanta escaped with a 117-111 home victory. Curry, in the midst of a career-year, recently became the only player in NBA history to record 11-consecutive games with 30 or more points after turning 33.
