On the night of September 20, 1998, Cal Ripken, Jr. sat out his first Orioles game since May of 1982. Donning this Orioles cap, Cal watched his teammates fall to New York, 5-4. The black Orioles cap has the oriole bird embroidered on the front in orange, black and white. The inside headband has the New Era tagging plus “7 3/8” size labels and “Diamond Collection” tag. Ripken’s handwritten number “8” is found on the underside of the brim in black marker. The cap shows good game use with perspiration stains on the brim and headband and some scuffing and turf marks on the outside surfaces. Cal has completed this historical lid with a bold signature on the brim in silver ink, adding, “Sept 20, 1998.” This cap comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item.
