Cal Ripken, Jr. was the undisputed star of the Orioles by 1990. His bat, coupled by his flawless fielding made him one of the AL's most exciting players. At the time this batting helmet was used by him, Cal was joined on the O's by his father Cal, Sr., a coach and his younger brother Billy - in fact both Ripken boys hit 28 doubles that summer, tying for the team lead. Ripken Jr. would bat .250 with 150 hits, 21 home runs and 84 RBI to earn an All-Star selection. This presented Baltimore Orioles batting helmet was worn by Ripken Jr. during the 1990 season. The batting helmet, from the personal collection of Cal Ripken Jr., features the “Oriole Bird” Baltimore Oriole logo on the front of the batting helmet. The helmet features an orange visor and is blue with white accents on the front. “ABC” is labeled on the back for the American Baseball Cap Company. “AMERICAN BASEBALL CAP MEDIA PA” is labeled on the underside of the visor. A torn “AMERICAN BASEBALL CAP” sticker is affixed to the inside of the helmet. The helmet displays excellent evidence of game use that contains stains on the inside foam batting, marks, abrasions, and black marks cover the helmet throughout. This game used Cal Ripken Jr. Baltimore Orioles batting helmet worn by Ripken Jr. during the 1990 season comes with a signed LOA from Ripken Jr.
