In what seemed more like a scripted movie than an actual baseball game, Derek Jeter, whom the entire baseball community had been celebrating since his retirement announcement in February 2014, now had the chance to be the hero in his last game in Yankee Stadium, on the night of September 25, 2014. Jeter wasted no time in seizing the moment, swinging at the first pitch from Orioles reliever Evan Meek and hitting it sharply between first and second base for an opposite-field single. Richardson rounded third and raced toward home. Markakis, who fielded the ball in right field, threw a one-hopper to the plate, but the throw arrived late, and Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph couldn't field it cleanly. As the home plate umpire signaled that Richardson was safe, Jeter leaped into the air with his arms above his head. For the first time in the emotionally draining night, Jeter was smiling from ear to ear. His bottom-of-the-ninth hit gave the New York Yankees a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Presented is Jeter’s locker room nameplate from that final game at Yankee Stadium. The 4 x 16-inch white vinyl plate has Jeter’s name in navy-blue block letters at the center, his number “2” at the left margin, and the Yankees interlocking “NY” logo at the right.  This item comes with a LOA from Steiner Sports (208136) and an MLB Authenticated hologram (HZ556288).
