George Smith Patton, Jr. was born on November 11, 1885 and is best known for his command of the Seventh United States Army and Third United States Army in World War II. During his formative years, Patton attended The Classical School for Boys in Pasadena, CA after initially being homeschooled. Before attending The Classical School for Boys, Patton had struggled with reading, suffering from dyslexia.

This 5.25 in x 8.25 in report card with a crease in the upper left blank corner, is dated March 28, 1899 when he was 12 years old. The heading of the card reads “Classical School for Boys, PASADENA, CALIFORNIA Report of George S. Patton (name handwritten) for the term ending March 28, 1899” (date handwritten).

Below the headings are list of the school criteria:
“Times Absent 3 (number handwritten)
Times Late 0 (number handwritten)
Times Dismissed 0 (number handwritten)”

There are two numerical grades for each subject – Recitation & Examination. Patton’s grades were: Arithmetic 73/65, Geography 95/90, Latin 95/73, Penmanship 88 (Recitation Only), Reading 86/71, Spelling 91/96, Composition and Declamation 94 (Recitation Only) and Deportment 99 (Recitation Only). The card was signed by “Stephen Cutter Clark” the Principal of the school.

Eight years later, Patton, while serving at West Point, sent this signed 5.5 in x 3.5 in envelope to his mother:
“Mrs. Geo. S. Patton
San Gabriel
Los Angeles Co.

The envelope has a George Washington 2 cent stamp affixed with the postmark of West Point dated December 1906. The reverse postmark has “San Gabriel, December 29, 1906”. LOA from PSA/DNA.
