Roberto Duran, nicknamed “Hands of Stone” for his formidable punching power and excellent defense, faced off against Hector “Macho” Camacho for the vacant IBC Middleweight Championship on June 6th, 1996 in Atlantic City. After a grueling back-and-forth between the two pugilists, with both fans and commentators awarding the fight to Duran, the three judges unanimously awarded Camacho the victor to much controversy. Sugar Ray Leonard, who was working commentary for the fight, would come out of retirement to face Camacho himself and would be knocked out for the first time in his career when he faced Camacho in 1997. This presented IBC World Champion belt was awarded to Camacho after his unanimous decision victory over Roberto Duran. The black belt features two gold-painted mirrors surrounded by gold-painted frames on the opposite sides of each belt. A large gold raised plaque is featured prominently on the center of the belt that contains two boxing gloves and eagles on each side and the torso of a boxer with his arms raised. Several red faux gemstones adorn the plaque. A round circular medallion labeled “WORLD CHAMPION INTERNATIONAL BOXING COUNCIL IBC” with a boxing ring in the middle appears on the center of the plaque and on the black strap on the back of the belt. The inside of the belt features soft material. The belt features elements of fading of the gold paint on the belt and wear on the black leather. The IBC belt awarded to Camacho after his victory over Roberto Duran comes with an LOA from Del Perez, Camacho’s former manager.
