Offered here is the famous smoking jacket worn by the late Hugh Hefner and was part of the famed Hugh M. Hefner Collection. Hefner came to fame by creating Playboy magazine when he launched the iconic publication back in 1953. Hefner’s Playboy empire has undergone numerous reinventions since its humble beginnings in 1953, growing into a behemoth with a reputation for decadence before toning down in recent years to a more family-friendly approach. But in the early years of the magazine, Hef was simply an editor trying to publish a magazine.

Getting his start working for Esquire, he soon left to launch what would become his famed magazine set to feature monthly interviews of celebrities, musicians, politicians and the iconic centerfolds we all know of today. Playboy’s first ever issue featured Marilyn Monroe of the front cover, which helped launch the magazine, and saw it become a staple of pop culture and adult entertainment.

Hefner’s jacket is a size 40 with a burgundy velvet exterior with two pockets in the front. The front of the jacket has two black buttons that are fully intact and the robe has a shawl collar that is trimmed in black satin. The entire interior of this jacket is made of black satin with sleeve ends having a 2-inch black satin border. There is an additional pocket in the upper left chest, which is also lined in black satin. The jacket is in excellent overall condition and is a rare opportunity to own a piece of cultural history. This item comes with the original Julien's tag.
