In 1983, Jim Valvano led the North Carolina State Wolfpack to one of the most improbable NCAA titles of all time. Valvano’s Wolfpack faced the formidable “Phi Slama Jama” Houston Cougars in the title game, stealing a last second victory on Lorenzo Charles’ indelible putback dunk. Sadly, Valvano is today remembered for his tear-jerking speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards while battling terminal cancer. Offered in this lot is a typed letter on N.C. State Wolfpack letterhead signed by Valvano. The letter reads “Dear Nick, Thank you for your recent note and the clipping on Chucky Brown. It’s always good to hear from you. I look forward to seeing you soon. Best Wishes, Jim Valvano”. Valvano has signed this letter in black pen as “Jim”. Two photographs from the 1983 NCAA Tournament final are displayed next to the letter in this 22 x 18-inch frame. This item comes with a COA from JSA (V49365).
