Jose Leandro Andrade, an icon of Uruguayan soccer and arguably the best player of the 1920’s, was presented with this Jules Rimet Trophy commemorating Uruguay’s victory in the 1930 FIFA World Cup in 1950. Andrade played in the antiquated wing-half position, responsible for leading the Uruguayan attack and dropping into defense when the opposition ventured into celeste territory. Andrade stunned European audiences during Uruguay’s Olympic successes in 1924 and 1928, while also contributing to Uruguay’s victory in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, hosted by the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo. Andrade’s nephew, Victor Rodriguez Andrade, was a member of Uruguay’s World Cup winning team in 1950.

This offered Jules Rimet Trophy depicts the Greek goddess Nike standing on a black plinth and backed by a black support. A plaque above the goddess is etched with “1930” and a plaque on the pedestal’s front is etched with “LEANDRO ANDRADE”. The surviving Uruguay players from the 1930 team were all presented with these trophies in 1950, including Uruguay’s captain Jose Nasazzi, whose version of this trophy sold for over $28,000 in 2013. The trophy measures approximately 21.5 centimeters tall and is gold-plated bronze. This historic trophy is a fantastic relic from one of the earliest South American soccer icons. This trophy was part of the historic Rony Almeida Soccer Collection and is accompanied by a Letter of Provenance.
