In the 1930 World Cup, Uruguay went on to win the World Title by securing a 4-2 win against their longtime rivals in what was a re-edition of the Olympic Games final two years earlier that had to have two games played as the first contest ended in a draw. Uruguay ended up victorious in the 1928 Olympics, and again in the World Cup by a score of 4-2 over the Argentina team in the finals of the first ever world cup, also hosted in Uruguay. As a memento to forever capture this great achievement, the host country was awarded a monumental and oversized 1930 World Cup trophy that memorializes the first ever FIFA World Cup final match, played between Uruguay and Argentina on July 30 at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo, with a 4-2 win for the host Nation Uruguay.
The trophy stands over 2 feet tall and is topped by a football player and emblazoned with the enamel emblems of the World Cup Finalists, inscribed 1er CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE FOOTBALL, COPA JULES RIMET, MONTEVIDEO 1930. The large silver award has been mounted on square black marble base and weighs over 25 lbs. This is the most impressive Trophy of the Almeida Collection and comes with a letter of provenance.
