In the long and storied history of baseball, there haven’t been many characters as beloved as Don Zimmer. The man known as “Popeye” – a nickname given to him by Roy Campanella – served as bench coach for the New York Yankees during their dominate run in which they won four World Series titles from 1996-2000. Among the championship seasons was 1998, when the Yankees swept the San Diego Padres in the Fall Classic.

     Presented here is Zimmer’s 1998 World Series ring, which features 24 beautiful diamonds that make up the team’s famed NY logo, set on a navy blue background. Surrounding the logo are another 24 diamonds. Please note that Zimmer received the PLAYERS VERSION of this historic ring. The number of diamonds is a representation of 1998 being the 24th World Series championship in franchise history. The outer perimeter of the ring reads “WORLD CHAMPIONS 1998”. The left shank of the ring reads “125-50” followed by the Yankees logo, and the words “BEST EVER” below the logo. This signifies the team’s win-loss record that season, including the playoffs, which resulted in a record for most wins in a single season. The right side of the ring features the name “ZIMMER” and the World Series trophy in the foreground of Yankee Stadium, with the word “TRADITION” underneath that. “Balfour” (the ring producer) appears on the inside of the band, along with “14K”, which is the weight of the gold. Ring size is approximately 11 ½ and weighs 36.0 grams. This item comes with a LOA from Zimmer’s wife, Jean, and includes the wooden Presentation Box (6 x 7 ½ x 3 inches) etched with “New York Yankees 1998 World Champions.”
