Encapsulated and graded 9.6 with “Off-White to White Pages” by CGC. "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!" It is safe to say that without this presented copy of "Avengers" #1 published by Marvel Comics in September of 1963, there would be no Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. The team consisting of superheroes who fight "the foes no single superhero can withstand" is now the cornerstone of the Marvel brand. DC Comics launched the "Justice League" comic book featuring a team of superheroes in 1960 to great success. Tasked by Marvel publisher Martin Goodman to create a team of superheroes similar to the "Justice League," Stan Lee and Jack Kirby used preexisting Marvel characters to emulate the same formula used by DC Comics. The result? The duo created one of the most iconic superhero teams to ever appear in print and film.
This historic debut issue features the original Avengers lineup consisting of Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and the Wasp, ironically brought together by the threat of Loki. They all make their Marvel debut in this action-packed issue. The story was written by comic book legend Stan Lee, with the iconic cover and art illustrated by Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers. The five principal founding members of the Avengers would star in their own comic books and films and have become synonymous with the Marvel brand, making this issue one of the most essential titles in Marvel history.
According to CGC's census report, this is one of only five copies to achieve such a high grade, with no other copies attaining a higher grade. This scarce comic book featuring the single most iconic superhero team ever to assemble will only increase in value as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to dominate silver screens worldwide. A sterling specimen from the Silver Age of Comics.
