A more elaborate or indulgent tribute to The Super Bowl has never been attempted. Titled "SUPER BOWL XL", this 85LB, 950 page visual tribute to sport's penultimate game is 28" square and almost 6" thick. 2,000 hand-picked photographs from the greatest sports photographers are beautifully reproduced: Neil Leifer, Walter Iooss, Michael Zagaris, Bart Silverman. Some are iconic photos that have gone down in football history but others are never-before seen, specially selected for inclusion in the book. Special attention is given to panoramic shots, printed in truly incredible fold-out folios that stretch to over 9 feet in length. The images are interspersed with texts from the game's best sportswriters like David Halberstam, Red Smith and Roy Blount, Jr., and cover 4 decades of Super Bowl history. Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Harry Kramer and many more tell their own story of Super Bowl glory as excerpted from their own personal memoirs. Besides being a visual joy to behold, this volume offers the Super Bowl Game Chart. It details every play of every Super Bowl game and records the role played by every single player to step foot on the field during the championship game. Interspersed between chapters on each of the forty Super Bowls are special chapters focusing on the cheerleaders, forgotten heroes and half-time entertainment. Plus one-of-a-kind galleries of the championship rings, trophies and game tickets. The volume offered here is number 112 of only 400 M.V.P. limited editions made that features an additional page signed by every Super Bowl MVP since the game's 1967 inception (Harvey "Too Mean" Martin is the lone exception having passed away in 2001).
Every copy was hand-stitched in Verona, Italy, bound in the finest quality leather and encased in a wooden clamshell case covered in screen-printed silk. The pages are edged in silver gilding. Every edition contains a microchip encrypted with codes unique to each XL. As the Opus press release states, this “XL” is a luxury item to be read as the butler turns the pages".
