In Major League Baseball history, just 23 pitchers have twirled the elusive perfect game. Future Hall-of-Famer Roy Halladay joined the club on May 29, 2010, when he became the 20th pitcher to achieve the feat while a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. “Doc” dominated the Marlins on that day, striking out 11 batters while needing just 115 pitches to complete the near improbable task. In August of that season, in the clubhouse before a game, Halladay presented a gift to about 60 members of the Phillies organization that helped him earn the milestone performance --- customized Baume & Mercier Riviera XXL watches for all active roster players, the coaching staff, clubhouse personnel, training and video staff, and public relations officials. This particular watch was given to Phillies relief pitcher J.C. Romero by Halladay. The reverse plate of the watch is engraved with “PERFECT GAME,” “5/29/10,” the game’s line score, and “J.C. ROMERO.” The unused watch still has attached Baume & Mercier manufacturer tags and a protective blue film covering the clasp. The watch is housed in a customized wooden box with glass top that has “PERFECT GAME” and “MAY 29, 2010” etched onto the surface. The front of the box is home to a metal plate that reads “We did it together” and “Thanks, Roy Halladay.” A red display pouch rests inside the box to hold the watch in place. Romero has signed the back side of the wooden case in bold, black sharpie. Comes with a JC Romero LOA.
