After surgery and long rehab, Tony Gwynn began re-thinking his approach to batting. A meeting with Hall of Famer Ted Williams completely changed the way Gwynn hit and in 1994 he recorded the highest batting average in the NL since 1930 with .394. Being warded the batting crown that year was only a formality. Gwynn turned around and won the crown again in ’95 with .368 and an almost .400 average when there were runners on base. The Louisville Slugger B267 model bat shows outstanding game use with a handle crack. There is some checking on the barrel from repeated ball contact and Gwynn’s number “19” is hand-written on both ends. Visible on the barrel is a tape line, indicating the bat was used during batting practice. There are also ball marks on the barrel area that was covered with tape raising the possibility the bat was game used by Gwynn then retired for batting practice.
The Hall of Famer has signed the barrel, putting the finishing touches on a great Tony Gwynn bat, used during his finest seasons. Letter of Authenticity (1B06017 and COA Y58790) from PSA/DNA.
