     As he was climbing rungs up the ladder of baseball’s all-time home run leaders Mike Schmidt hit career home runs number 504 and 505 in the same game, off Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bill Gullickson in the Phillies 4-2 victory over the Reds at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium on May 9, 1987. Schmidt connected for a two-run homer with Juan Samuel aboard in the top of the first inning and hit a solo blast leading off in the top of the sixth with this 35-inch Rawlings/Adirondack Mike Schmidt Professional Model Big Stick natural wood grain, flame burned finish bat.

   

     The bat is cracked at the handle and shows excellent evidence of game use with residual pine tar high up on the handle and has been inscribed by Schmidt with “.504 .505” in bold black sharpie just above the Rawlings label. Rawlings trademark red ring is wrapped around the handle. The barrel contains red bat rack marks, ball impressions and grain swelling. Barrel end contains residual pine tar and green grass stains and the knob is engraved with number “154A” a smaller “059 7” and has Schmidt’s number 20 written in bold black sharpie. This fantastic piece of historic hardwood grades and outstanding “10” and comes with PSA/DNA certification #1B06089 as well as a notarized letter of authenticity from Schmidt.
