The first major leaguer to reach the coveted 3,000-hit milestone with a home run, “Chicken Man,” Wade Boggs punched his ticket to Cooperstown in dramatic and emotional fashion, knocking a two-run dinger off Cleveland Indians reliever Chris Haney as a member of his home town Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on August 7, 1999. In a memorable display Boggs got down on his knees and kissed home plate to make his 3,000th hit official and the spot where the ball landed beyond the right field wall is still commemorated with a yellow seat not far from where another yellow seat marks the spot where Boggs hit the first home run in franchise history one year earlier.

     For his milestone achievement Boggs was presented by Tampa Bay Devil Rays owner Vince Naimoli with a custom ordered Mercury 200 HP OptiMax powered deluxe 19-foot Ranger 518 SVX bass boat now being offered here. The $50,000 custom craft is carpeted in the Rays metallic teal blue and silver team colors and was originally presented to Boggs in an on-field ceremony at Tropicana Field where Boggs also took a victory lap around the field in the boat on the trailer which is included. The since unused boat remains in sparkling brand new condition and the eventual winning bidder will also receive a “Wade Boggs Fishing Experience” where they will be able to spend a few hours fishing with Wade before/after they pick up the boat (details/dates TBD).
