Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer and a scarcer "High Number" entry. Among a total of more than 2,100 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just 91 examples have achieved a higher, unqualified tier. The “Sporting News All-Star” cards, the very last pieces in the 1961 Topps set, were the ideal finale for a year of collecting. It was only fitting, too, that the specially themed, full-color items, highlighting the game's biggest stars, enjoy a measure of exclusivity beyond the "regular" cards in the set. Appropriately, as components of the issue's challenging high number series, that was indeed the situation. Offered is a praiseworthy example of the most desirable card in this popular subset. Mickey Mantle's portrait bursts through the front page of the Sporting News on the face of this brilliant collectible. The card delivers stunning depth of photo resolution, an unbelievably crisp image, and tremendous print quality within its incomparably white borders. Robust corners at each aspect complete the framing of the Yankee slugger's likeness. A delight to view, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
