In the 1920s and 1930s, Gabby Hartnett was known for his strong and accurate throwing arm behind the plate and was the first major league catcher to hit more than 20 home runs in a season. Playing almost his entire career for the Cubs, Hartnett was associated with a number of memorable moments in baseball history. Among those great moment of Hartnett's career came with one week left in the 1938 season, when Hartnett came to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning with darkness encompassing Wrigley Field. Hartnett hit a game-winning home run to put the Cubs into first place and the event became immortalized as the Homer in the Gloamin' (a regional dialect for the term “twilight”).
This black and white Hall of Fame plaque card has been beautifully signed Leo “Gabby” Hartnett in blue pen. The card has been encapsulated by PSA and the autograph has been deemed authentic and awarded a grade of Mint 9.
