The Republican National Convention of 1900 was held in Philadelphia, PA, during which the party nominated President William McKinley for re-election, with Teddy Roosevelt nominated as his Vice President. These 2 badges originate from that conference. The first is a 2” X 6.25” badge, with a bronze hanger connected by a red, white and blue ribbon reading “Delegate“, to a lower bronze piece. This is in turn attached to a 1 ¾” bronze medal showing staggered profiles of McKinley, Lincoln and Grant. The 2nd badge is smaller, a 2 ¾” bronze badge in the shape of the Liberty Bell, reading “June 19th 1900 Republican National Convention Philadelphia”. The center of the bell features a gold image of McKinley. These badges represent a time of promise and hope for the United States of America, a hope that would be shattered less than 2 years later by an assassin’s bullet.
