Filled with the emotion of despair and aimlessness, this poignant turn of the century original photograph captures the plight of three men passing their time without any seeming direction. By no coincidence, the photographer has chosen to prominently show in the background the one store that is hard to miss because of its overt advertising. “Whiskies, Brandies, Wines, Etc.,” “Rye, Bourbon, Whiskies,” “Wines and Liquors,” and “Kentucky Whisky” all call to those close by to help them pass their time. The back of the photo has been aptly labeled “Dissipation at the Docks.”
