With 938 career stolen bases, Hall of Famer Lou Brock has always been mainly known as a base stealer, but his 3,023 hits and .293 career BA indicates that he was a complete ball player in every sense of the word. This Official Feeney National League ball was game used on June 9, 1972, at San Diego Stadium in San Diego, CA. Brock took a 0-2 pitch from Bill Greif and roped this baseball into right field for a triple. The ball shows significant wear from game use, and Brock has penned his sweeping signature across the sweet spot in black marker. An inscription in an unknown hand on the panel above the signature reads “The ball Lou Brock hit for his 1,873th lifetime hit. June 9, 1972. Also 101 triple. At San Diego.” On the panel below Brock’s signature, an inscription in the same hand reads “Pitcher Bill Greif”, and below that, an image of Brock wearing his STL hat has been painted onto the ball. This item is accompanied by a MEARS COA certifying game use, as well as a COA from PSA/DNA regarding the signature.
