Ken Griffey, Jr. announced his arrival in the majors the only way he knew how - a tremendous double in his first at bat. A week later he hit the first of what would be 630 home runs. From the start Junior demonstrated what real natural baseball talent looked liked. In an era darkened by steroids, Griffey exemplified all that was pure and real about the game. When he was eligible for the Hall of Fame, Griff was ushered in on the first ballot, a rare tribute by the sportswriters to his tremendous contributions to the game. And this jersey is from when it all began - Griffey's 1989 rookie season with Seattle. The home white jersey has "MARINERS" across the front in yellow and blue tackle twill and Griffey's number "24" in blue tackle twill. Blue piping runs around the neck and down the front. Russell size "46" label is sewn inside the left front tail and "SET 1 1989" and "2 INCH EXTRA LENGTH" tags are affixed. The back has "GRIFFEY" in blue tackle twill on a white name plate across the shoulders and his number "24" in blue tackle twill below. The jersey shows moderate game use with several small pine tar stains and turf scuffs visible. A very choice early gamer from one of the most naturally talented ball player who ever played the game. Letter of Authenticity (314534) from game used experts MEARS who have graded this Cooperstown-worthy jersey a perfect score of A-10 and Mill Creek with whom Griffey had a game used equipment agreement with.
