Poised for hit #3,000 in 2016, Ichiro Suzuki staked his claim as one of baseball’s great hitters right out of the gate. The first Japanese born position player in major league history, Ichiro’s rookie season with the Seattle Mariners is one of the great rookie campaign’s in history: A League leading 242 hits and 56 stolen bases, a .350 BA for his first of two batting titles, and hardware as the AL ROY and AL MVP awards. Ichiro was also named to his first of 10 consecutive All-Star Games in 2001, and he has signed this Official Selig 2001 All-Star Game Ball in black ink on the sweet spot, including his #51, to commemorate that selection.
