The Chicago Cubs are one of the oldest teams in professional baseball, having been a founding member of the National League in 1876. Yet in the 143 years that the team has been in existence, the Cubbies have only won 16 NL Pennants (the last in 1945), and a meager 2 World Series titles (1907 & 1908). The 1929 edition of the Chicago Cubs brought home one of those coveted pennants but, despite being loaded with Hall of Fame talent, would go on to lose the Series in 5 games to the Philadelphia Athletics. This official National League ball, circa 1930, is signed by 23 members of that pennant winning team, including Hall of Famers Rogers Hornsby, Hack Wilson, Gabby Hartnett & Kiki Cuyler, along with Pat Malone, Riggs Stephenson, Fred “Sheriff” Blake, Zack Taylor, and others. All signatures are in some variation of black ink, with some displaying clearly and others exhibiting significant fading. The ball itself shows some toning and fading, and the item is accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
