While it’s well documented that the New York Yankees have won 27 World Series, what is lesser known is that they have also lost the Series 13 times. And while some losses have been of the gut wrenching variety (Game 7 vs. Arizona in 2001 and Bill Mazeroski in 1960 jump immediately to mind), it’s possible that none are more improbable than the manner in which the final out of the 1926 World Series was made. In a nutshell: Game 7, Cardinals lead the Yankees 3-2 with 2 outs in the 9th inning. Babe Ruth represents the tying run on 1st base, with Bob Meusel at the plate. On the 1st pitch to Meusel, Ruth takes off for 2nd base, and is thrown out stealing by C Bob O’Farrell to give St. Louis its first World Series title. That is not a typo: Babe Ruth was caught stealing to end the World Series. This original ticket stub is for that incredible Game 7 of the 1926 World Series. Priced at $5.50, the ticket is for a Lower Rear Box seat at Yankee Stadium, Sec. 18, Box 17, Seat 2. The ticket stub is PSA/DNA Encapsulated.
