Based on numbers alone, there is no player more deserving a plaque in the Hall of Fame than Pete Rose. Since 1963 Rose gave his heart and soul to the game, playing harder than anyone else on the field. His reliance on drive and clutch hitting made him the spark plug that ran the Big Red Machine of the 1970's. He made the Phillies instant World Series Champions and during his second stint with The Reds he successfully made the transition to player/manager. His position as the all-time career hit leader all but guaranteed him a spot in Cooperstown when the story broke that Pete Rose had broke baseball's cardinal sin - he bet on baseball. This check made out to a Florida dog track is dated just four years before he was placed on the ineligible list by Major League Baseball, effectively banishing him from organized baseball. The check is dated March 30, 1985 and is drawn on the Oak Hills Savings and Loan in Cincinnati for $6,000.00 in cash. Pete has signed the check twice, once on the front and again on the back in blue ink. Usual bank stamps are on the front and back, the only signature being effected is the endorsement on the back which has a light string of numbers running between his first and last name. A "FOR DEPOSIT ONLY ST. PETERSBURG KENNEL CLUB" stamp is present on the back. Graded Mint 9 and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
