This jersey was worn in 1967 by Hall of Fame fullback Jim Taylor, who was wrapping up a stellar 10-year career with the New Orleans Saints NFL expansion team. Taylor had made his name as a hard-hitting ball carrier – who gave out far more punishment than he took – with the 1960's Green Bay Packers dynasty. Taylor was Coach Vince Lombardi's go-to player in virtually any situation. Said the legendary coach: "Jim Brown will give you that leg and then take it away from you. Jim Taylor will give it to you and then ram it through your chest." Taylor scored the first rushing touchdown in Super Bowl history, and figured prominently in four championship campaigns for the locally owned Wisconsin squad. For New Orleans in 1967, his contributions included two touchdowns and 390 rushing yards in fourteen games. This white pullover garment boasts the LSU product's number "31" sewn to the front, back and shoulders in gold-on-black tackle twill. The sleeves also feature a gold-and-black striped pattern and stretch-ribbed openings. A well-worn "Southland Athletic Mfg. Co." manufacturer's label with a size "48" flop tag resides within the collar. The battle-tested jersey exhibits absolutely phenomenal use, with team repairs and general wear throughout. Graded A9.5 by MEARS.
