Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among a total of more than 350 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, only two examples have achieved a higher tier. In 1953, Al Kaline left the sandlots of Baltimore for the greener pastures of Briggs Stadium in Detroit, and never played a game in the minor leagues: he flourished in Detroit for the next twenty-two years. This card captures Kaline as the reigning American League batting champion, a rising star who was the youngest player in baseball history to take home that honor. Projecting four sharp corners, deep color and well-calibrated centering, this gray-backed ’56 Topps card delivers tremendous eye appeal. Near Mint to Mint condition, with a seemingly pack-fresh appearance.
