After a 12-0 season capped by a Fiesta Bowl victory over Miami, Penn State's Nittany Lions under Joe Paterno handily secured the 1986 NCAA Championship. In recognition of this successful season, the squad was given the coveted "UPI Coaches Trophy." This is an official mini-version replica of the full-size trophy sponsored by The Gerrits Foundation. The approximately 5-1/2” x 4-1/2” x 10”-tall black stand reads in full (on front and back), “The Gerrits Foundation – UPI Coaches Trophy – Honoring – The National Football Champion – Penn State – 1986.” An elegant Waterford crystal glass football at the top – measuring about 5” in length – highlights the award's impressive appearance.
