Yankee Stadium, America's equivalent of Rome's Colosseum, unfolds in brilliant bold colors in this spectacular panoramic. Executed in oil paint on board, this painting by Mike Kuyper depicts a 1961 Yankees-Red Sox afternoon game a The Stadium. Look closely and you can see Mickey Mantle just starting his home run trot as he watches one of the 54 he hit that year leave the ball field. Roger Maris has rounded second base and headed home with the tying run. Number 8 Yogi Berra is kneeling in the on-deck circle waiting to get his chance and the Boston players in the road greys turn their back to the plate and silently admire Mantle's raw power. All the glories of the old Yankee Stadium are depicted from the gold and red Gem razor ad to the Longines clock atop the scoreboard that has yet to reflect that The Mick's homer has put the Yanks up 3-2. The painting measures a Ruthian "24" x 40" and is unframed. A stunningly beautiful and detailed tribute to Baseball's Cathedral.
