The year 2003 saw an IBF Cruiserweight Championship flagship fight between James Toney and Vassiliy Jirov which the Boxing Writers Association of America could not resist labeling “Fight of the Year”. An epic battle won by Toney earned him this award which we proudly offer. It is an open class award for the most thrilling fight of the year. It was originally named the Harry Markson Memorial Trophy in tribute to the famous boxing promoter/publicist who once served as the president of boxing operations at Madison Square Garden. In 2009 it was renamed the “Ali-Frazier Award” to honor Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for their epic trilogy. The award is an impressive, heavy trophy measuring 14” tall. It showcases a bronze-like fighter in a boxing pose standing upon a wooden base with nameplate. One was issued to both fighters, this being James Toney's edition. It is accompanied by an LOA from James “Lights-Out” Toney.
