During the 1988-89 NBA Season, Jordan claimed his 3rd consecutive NBA scoring title with a 32.5 average, and posted career highs in both assists per game (8.0) and rebounds per game (8.0). In order to achieve those lofty numbers, Jordan went on a historic tear of 7 straight games with triple doubles and achieving that feat in 10 of 11 games. This pair was worn during the 4th consecutive triple double for Jordan, a night in which he scored 37 points, and had 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a loss vs. Cleveland. A video of that game is linked at the end of this item description. The shoes were given to an affiliate of Jordan's (Ronnie). She was given the shoes by Jordan after the game on March 31st, 1989, and gifted them to her nephew. She included a note to her nephew which in part reads "Michael Jordan gave me his game shoes that he wore against the Cavaliers on March 31st (we lost). He autographed them for you. Now I have to cook him dinner. It would be nice if you sent him a thank you note or card.....love Aunt Ronnie" It comes with a photograph of Michael Jordan with his arm around her shoulder as they walk down a hallway together. The mid soles on each shoe have been professionally restored and work is not noticeable by sight as seen in images online. The sneakers were sent to MEARS for an independent evaluation. MEARS has authenticated the shoes and issued an LOA which accompanies the shoes. The shoes are Nike Air Jordan 4 shoes. They are size 13 and show "heavy game wear." the code on each interior shoe tag reads, “13 8811 12FT 2, Made in Taiwan, Fabrique En Taiwan, PAT. NOS, 4183156:4340626” This tagging is consistent with other examples which have entered the hobby.
To our knowledge, these Jordan shoes represent the ONLY triple double game worn Jordan's to enter the hobby. They were also worn during the most prolific streak of Michael Jordan's career. In addition to receiving the two LOAs mmentioned above, two LOAs from JSA (one for each shoe signature) accompany the lot. A video of the game can be seen here.
