Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Hall of Famer. This impeccable example stands alone at its tier, and none has been graded higher. Collectibles associated with the Sports Exchange – boasting images credited to the "International News Photo" agency – were among the first issues produced after World War II. The cards were distributed through ads placed in the trading card publication "The Trading Post," and were released in three groups of six 6-card panels that were designed to be cut apart by the consumer. Each 36-card series sold for $1, and no single cards were available for sale. Each of the three series had its own distinctly colored border framing a black-and-white image of the player. The crisply uncirculated, Red Border specimen offered here, picturing Babe Ruth just a year before his passing, radiates absolutely pristine, unimprovable quality. All of its corners are incomparably sharp, and there is no wear to be seen on the deeply colored edges. Outstanding and unique Mint condition. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
