The period between the albums "Mind Games" and "Walls and Bridges" was one of the most troubled and creative times in John Lennon's short life. John and Yoko Ono encountered trouble in their marriage and had agreed to separate. Yoko took the odd step of encouraging the couple's personal assistant May Pang to begin a relationship with Lennon, who had confided to Yoko that he found Pang attractive. Though reluctant at first due to her relationship with the pair, Pang began an 18 month affair with John, a period that has gone down to Beatles fans as the "Lost Weekend".

Lennon began drinking heavily and embarked on a series of ill-fated projects including an aborted record with Phil Spector who fired a gun in the control room and swiped the master tapes. Lennon made headlines by being ejected from the famed Troubadour nightclub twice and then moved into a large Santa Monica house with Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, Nilsson and Pang. After rekindling his relationship with Paul McCartney, Lennon and Pang moved to New York in March of 1974 where he tamed his drinking and recorded the "Walls and Bridges" album which spawned his only solo number one hit "Whatever Gets you Thru The Night". After 18 months apart John and Yoko reconciled, though he later told a biographer that this "Lost Weekend" phase was "the happiest I've ever been…".

This cowboy shirt is a bold artifact from what may have been Lennon's most creative and self-destructive period. The seven snap button shirt is a creamy off-white with classic Western pattern to the shoulders which along with the cuffs have been augmented with a homey 1970's quilt pattern. The shirt appears to be in good condition with no tears or stains visible. The shirt has been professionally mounted in a 34" x 38" x 1 3/4" shadowbox. In addition to the shirt there is a plaque is engraved with "JOHN LENNON & MAY PANG 1974 THE LOST WEEKEND. This off white button down cowboy style shirt was worn by J.L. during his infamous "Lost Weekend".

Beatles authenticator Larry Warren obtained this shirt directly from then girlfriend May Pang." Also mounted with the shirt is a framed signed letter from Warren stating that it was given to him by Pang in 1988 and includes the understatement of the year when he writes "Nothing very significant about it other than the fact that Lennon wore it often"!
