The Demon Barber of Flatbush made his mark right from the get-go, racking up a 13-5 record (including a clutch no-hitter) in his first Dodger campaign and very nearly capturing the MVP and Cy Young Awards. He also hurled a World Series Game 1 win over Whitey Ford. But alas, Game 5 saw him on the losing end of Don Larsen's historic perfecto, despite surrendering only 5 hits and 2 runs to the Yankees in 8 strong innings. "The most gracious of all of the Dodgers in defeat was my mound opponent," recounted Larsen. "For a fierce competitor like Maglie to lose as he did, in spite of a great performance, had to have been devastating for him. Nevertheless, he made it over to congratulate me and talk with reporters about the game...Maglie told reporters, "I'm glad he got it [perfect game], as long as we had to lose."

Offered is that very N.L. championship ring once worn by Maglie with great pride. It's a Dieges & Clust 10K-gold, size 9 showpiece crowned by a 25-point blue sapphire and 14 points' worth of diamonds. An intricately detailed Ebbets Field motif highlights the shank designs. EX/MT to NM condition. Accompanied by a laminated wooden plaque display (8-1/2" x 7-1/2") of Maglie's own 2/22/83 letter, reading, "This ring is Sal Maglie's authentic Brooklyn Dodgers 1956 Pennant Ring. Sal Maglie." Also included is a 1992 purchase LOA that reads, in part, "It is our understanding that this ring was awarded to Sal Maglie, the pitcher who lost to Don Larsen in the only perfect game in World Series history. The ring was originally acquired by Scott Goodman, a New York Dealer, from a member of Maglie's family."
