Cy Young's career is best summed up by what an anonymous person penned on the side panel of this magnificent single-signed ball: "The greatest ball pitcher of all time". Indeed, even that might be considered an understatement. For two decades Young was the game's greatest modern-era pitcher. Five times he won 30 or more games in a season and his career 511 wins is almost 100 greater than the next man on the list. Although no one is alive today that could boast of having seen him pitch in person, Cy Young is still the yardstick with which we grade all pitchers - the annual award for pitching excellence is named in his honor. The game's greatest ace has signed this ball in bold black fountain pen.
This might be the finest single-signed Cy Young ball in the hobby today.
His classic signature simply leaps from the flawless, off-white leather.
The ball itself is a beautifully clean 1940's S&K Official Little League ball. The Hall of Famer was a featured guest at every Little League World Series until he passed away in 1955, and the ball bears the facsimile signature of Little League president Carl Stotz who would be one of the pallbearers at Young's funeral. Single-signed balls from original Hall of Famers are especially sought after, and the 10 out of 10 condition of this Cy Young example makes it one of the the most desirable Young's to be found in the hobby.
