Among his many accolades, Dan Marino was a 9-time Pro Bowler, NFL Rookie of the Year, NFL MVP, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, 5-time NFL leader in passing yards, 3-time NFL leader in passing touchdowns, the first NFL Quarterback to throw for 5,000 yards in single season and the first NFL QB to throw for 40 touchdowns in a season. It is little wonder that Marino was inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
Marino wore this size 54 mesh Starter Pro Line Miami Dolphins white jersey during the Dolphins 24-17 victory over the visiting New York Jets at Pro Player Stadium on November 9, 1997. Marino went 18/29 with a touchdown in the victory.
This jersey exhibits excellent game use including dirt stains, sweat stains and other markings. Marino’s number “13” is sewn on in teal, orange and navy blue tackle twill on the front, back and shoulders and “MARINO” is sewn on in teal and orange on a matching white name plate. “Dolphins” is embroidered beneath the NFL logo patch in teal and the collar is teal. Each sleeve has the Dolphins logo patch sewn on and a teal screen-printed stripe is on the end of each sleeve. A 1 x 2 ½ inch white team tag is sewn on the inside back collar and reads “97-54” indicating the year and size of the jersey. The jersey also has the original mesh crotch piece still intact. Marino signed his name in silver marker and inscribed “13” on the back “1” of his “13” and also inscribed “1997 11/9 VS JETS” on the back “3”.
This jersey comes with hard-to-improve upon provenance including a LOA from Dan Marino via Fanatics Authentic, as well as pictures of Marino signing and holding the jersey.
