Before being elected 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy was elected by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a U.S. Senator (1953 – 1960) for one term and the Massachusetts 11th Congressional District from 1947-1953. Offered is an undated letter signed by Kennedy during his days as a Congressman. The letter is typed in blue on official “Congress of the United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C.” letterhead. The letter reads:
“Dear Walter:
Since I have just returned from Europe, I have been delayed in telling you how much I appreciate all of your efforts during the past moths of the campaign.
We would never have been successful against the Republican sweep, I am sure, if it had not been for the untiring efforts at Headquarters of the “Volunteers.”
I am especially grateful to you for your help, and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to thank you personally.
I do hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do.
Sincerely,
(Signed) John Kennedy John F. Kennedy”
(Hand written after signature “many many thanks Walter”)
The letter displays significant wear with toning and creasing, along with a vertical fold and two horizontal folds. The edges show wear and chipping, especially by the folds and the corners are bent. Kennedy’s signature still displays nicely and this signed letter comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AA07001).
