Gary Carter was already recognized as one of the best catchers in the National League when he arrived in New York in 1985. Called “The Kid” for his boundless enthusiasm and positive attitude, Carter’s presence on the Mets was just what the team needed to finally make them a winning unit. Calling the pitches, Carter turned the young pitching staff of Gooden, Darling and Fernandez into what looked like wizened veterans as the Mets battled for their first pennant in more than a decade.
Carter for his part was revitalized by his move to the Big Apple, batting .281 and recording a career-high 32 home runs. This is the very bat Gary Carter used to hit that 32nd shot. The Louisville Slugger P89L model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. The barrel shows some good contact marks with one crystal clear black ink transfer. The handle has a light coat of pine tar and Carter’s number “8” has been hand written on the knob in black marker. To illustrate the significance of this bat, The Kid has signed the barrel in dark blue marker and added “32nd Home Run Bat My Career High Off Larry McWilliams in Pittsburgh Game Winner 10th Inning 9-7 Win September 29, 1985”. A career moment bat attributed to one of the classiest men in the Hall of Fame. This game used and signed bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B10347), who have also graded this bat a perfect “GU 10” for the game use and a COA from PSA/DNA (AB98612) for his signature.
