Since the advent of the carnival midway, children have thrown money at seemingly unwinnable games for the chance to win a prize. Be it a stuffed animal or an inflatable baseball bat, taking something away from the midway is a rite of youthful passage. During the roaring 20’s, children may have walked away from the ring toss or the high striker with this 14-inch Babe Ruth figure. As would be expected of an item this aged, the lightweight composite piece exhibits extensive wear, including seam fissures down both sides and chipped paint throughout. The “Babe Ruth” written on the front of the jersey has cracked, but remains quite readable, and while the side of the head has chipped, Ruth’s face remains intact. Despite the rugged condition of the statue, Ruth has maintained possession of the original bat. The simple lack of availability makes this a rarity that commands attention in any condition.
