Former pitcher Dwight Gooden burst onto the scene in 1984 with the New York Mets en route to the National League Rookie of the Year. As impressive has his rookie campaign, his second year saw him win the National League Cy Young Award with a miniscule 1.53 ERA and a 24-4 record. Gooden spent 11 seasons with the Mets and was a key contributor to the great 1986 team.
Offered is the button-down Russell Athletic New York Mets home pinstripe jersey worn by Gooden during the 1992 season. This size 48 jersey features “Mets” sewn on across the chest in blue, orange and white tackle twill. Gooden’s number “16” is sewn on in the same color pattern on the left center chest. The back of the jersey has “GOODEN” and his number “16” sewn on in blue, orange and white tackle twill. Each sleeve has a ribbed orange/blue/orange vertical stripe from the neck to the sleeve end and each side of the jersey has the same vertical stripe pattern. The left sleeve has a memorial “S” patch in honor of William Shea, who passed away in October of 1991. Gooden signed his name “Doc Gooden” in blue marker below his number on the back of the jersey and inscribed “84 R.O.Y.” and “86 WS Champs”. The Russell Athletic Size 48 tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail. This jersey shows light game use and comes with a LOA from former Major Leaguer Bret Boone, who attests that the jersey was given to him by Gooden, a LOA from PSA/DNA (AA07625) and a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
