Offered is “The New York Times” newspaper dated April 15, 1865, the day after President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. The headlines of the event are to the left and read “AWFUL EVENT President Lincoln Shot by an Assassin. The Deed Done at Ford’s Theatre Last Night THE ACT OF A DESPERATE REBEL The President Still Alive at Last Accounts. No Hopes Entertained of His Recovery. Attempted Assassination of Secretary Seward. DETAILS OF THE DREADFUL TRAGEDY”. The newspaper measures 15 x 22 inches and is folded at the center. Given the age, this newspaper is in good condition, with only minor toning and some edge wear, and a great collectible capturing one of the most significant events in American history.
