Among the greatest scandals to ever rock the sports world, the 1919 Black Sox scandal has been a source of fascination and debate among baseball fans for nearly a century now. This sepia toned newspaper collage from the Police Gazette, New York City, was printed before the Series had finished, in the final days before America’s Pastime lost its innocence for the first (but not last) time. Featured in this collage are images of seven of the eight banned Chicago players, including “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Eddie Cicotte, Happy Felsch, Chick Gandil, Swede Risberg, Buck Weaver and Lefty Williams (leaving Fred McMullin as the only banned member of the Black Sox not pictured.) The collage also includes other Chicago players not involved in the scandal, including Hall of Famer Eddie Collins, as well as eleven members of the Cincinnati Reds, and managers Kid Gleason and Pat Moran.
