In 1993, the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins began their inaugural seasons. The Rockies played their home opener at Mile High Stadium in front of a regular season record crowd of 80,227 fans. Mile High Stadium was the home of the Rockies for the first two seasons and 1993’s total attendance of 4,483,350 fans will most likely never be broken.
In that first season, Don Zimmer served as the team’s bench coach under manager Don Baylor. Zimmer had previously had managerial stints with the San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs. During the 1993 season, Zimmer wore this size 46 Russell Athletic button-down Colorado Rockies white with purple pinstripe jersey. “ROCKIES” is sewn on across the chest in black, silver and white tackle twill, with his number “23” sewn on in back in black and gray tackle twill. The right sleeve has the Rockies inaugural season patch above the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in purple, while the Colorado Rockies logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve. The Russell Athletic size 46 tag and the team patch “1993-2” are sewn on the bottom front left tail. The jersey shows light use with Zimmer adding his signature in purple marker on the upper left chest. Please note that Zimmer’s signature has bled through the jersey and remnants of the purple ink appear on the back left shoulder. The signature is still readable. This jersey comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AB98590) for his signature and a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
