Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. led the Baltimore Orioles to an 85-77 record in 1993 as he led the American League with 641 at-bats and finished the season with a .257 batting average, 24 home runs and 90 RBI. It was the second season for Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which has become the inspiration for many of the new ballparks that have opened in the last 20 years. Camden Yards hosted the 1993 All-Star game and Ripken continued his pursuit of Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games played streak.
Ripken wore this home white uniform during the 1993 season. The size 48 Russell Athletic button-down white jersey features “Orioles” scripted in cursive across the chest with a paraph sewn on in orange and black tackle twill. Ripken’s number “8” is sewn on the center left chest with the Russell Athletic tag sewn on the bottom front tail with a 1 x 2 inch patch that reads “93-6” sewn on beneath it. The back of the jersey has “RIPKEN” sewn on in orange and black on a matching white nameplate and his number “8” sewn on in orange and black below his name. Each sleeve has a ribbed black/orange/black pattern to cap of the sleeves with the left sleeve having the “1993 All-Star Game” logo patch and the right sleeve having the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in black.
To complete the uniform, this lot also has a pair of Orioles pants that Ripken wore during the 1993 season. Also manufactured by Russell Athletic, these pants have a 37 inch waist and 30 inch inseam. The white pants have a zippered crotch with two buttons. Inside the back waistline is the Russell Athletic tag and a 1 x 2 ¾ inch white team identification patch that reads “8 RIPKEN 37/39-30-93-1” indicating waist, inseam, year and set. Each side has a black/orange/black vertical stripe and the Russell Athletic logo is embroidered in black above the back left pocket. The outside waistline has belt buckle straps. These pants show moderate game use with abrasions on the knees and are in great shape. The jersey and pants come with a full LOA from Mears.
