Perhaps nothing shows the true talent of a ballplayer than to come through in the clutch. Mike Trout, at just 22, had already proved he indeed possessed that special talent. Case in point: 4th of July, 2014. Angels - Astros at Anaheim. The two teams are knotted up at 6 going into the bottom of the 9th. Tony Sipp comes in to pitch for Houston. First up is Mike Trout. The 22 year-old star had a walk and a strikeout in four at bats. Now with the game on the line he steps to the plate sends a Sipp fastball into deep left-center. Game over. The blow was the second walk off homer of his career and the 20th round tripper of 36 he’d hit that year. It was Trout’s ability to deliver when his team most needed it that he’d be named the AL’s Most Valuable Player of 2014.

This Old Hickory MT27 model bat is the one he used to hit that walk-off home run. The bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. The barrel is covered with ball marks and stitch impressions along with white leather ball scuffs and cleat marks. As is common with Trout bats from this period, the lower handle and knob has been taped to enhance the grip and a moderate coat of pine tar has been applied to the lower and upper handle. An impression of a weighted batting donut can be seen and Trout’s number “27” has been hand written on the knob end in black marker. To mark the significance of this bat, Trout has signed the barrel and added “MVP 14 G/U Walk Off HR vs Hou 7-4-14”. A great gamer and its attribution to a specific home run during Trout’s MVP season makes it all the more special. This game used and signed bat comes with letters of authenticity from Anderson Authentics and PSA/DNA (1B10318) who have graded this bat a perfect “GU 10”.
