The Ed Block Courage Award, given annually to NFL players who have been voted by teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage, was awarded to Arizona Cardinals left tackle Lomas Brown following the 1997 Season. Standing 14 inches in height, the award consists of a pewter full-size Riddell Cardinals helmet, mounted on a silver cup engraved with “Lomas Brown Ed Block Courage Award 1997” and “Presented by Ed Block Courage Award Foundation, Inc.” The cup itself stands on a black wooden base measuring six inches in diameter. The cup mounting to the base has become loose, allowing the cup to move appx. .5 inches in either direction, but the trophy remains intact.
