Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer, as presented on one of the most universally admired and sought-after rookie cards in the hobby! Among more than 4,000 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just fifteen examples have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. This cherished Clemente collectible was included in the difficult "high number" segment of the 1955 Topps issue. Although the superstar outfielder's first season was not wholly noteworthy, Clemente did earn his way into Pittsburgh's starting lineup, and he remained a fixture there until his untimely death.
This specimen of his debut Topps card would be a prized highlight in any elite gallery. The obverse features Clemente's portrait and batting stance. His bold facsimile signature and the detailed Pirates logo enhance the item's favorable aesthetic. Clemente's facial image is compelling in its well-focused presentation, and the cardfront's intense colors, in general, are second to none. The corners form solid right angles culminating in admirable points, and the piece's reverse displays just a hint of attractive, even toning. This superb incarnation of Clemente's first Topps card - one of the finest PSA NM-MT 8 examples known - will meaningfully augment the finest assembly. As a point of reference on value, this exact card sold for nearly $150,000 at auction on June 10th, 2016. Incredible Near Mint to Mint condition.
